Pier Mauá in fighting Aedes aegypti

Joint actions with the Port Authority for the extermination of the mosquito spots

The alert and information campaign regarding Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika diseases began in early February. Flyers with all necessary information to prevent the diseases are distributed to passengers upon arrival at the passenger terminal. Totems located in strategic positions are also sources of information to visitors. Another important measure is to encourage tourists to use repellents.

The campaign is also being made in digital media of Pier Mauá. Texts and images with disease prevention tips are being posted on the official website of the Pier Mauá on Facebook. The concessionaire website also participates in the awareness campaign to tourists.

On Monday (02/15), the Minister of the Ports Department of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil (SEP), Helder Barbalho, could check the actions that the Pier Mauá has conceived and others performed along with the Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ – the Port Authority of Rio de Janeiro).

He met the monitoring station to fight the mosquito, mounted in a container in Warehouse 13. In addition to the insect capturing cages, the station has computers and analysis equipment of collected samples. The Aedes aegypti extermination work also counts on motorcycles that fumigate the entire length of Rio port.

The prevention work against mosquito proliferation has already been done by Pier Mauá few years ago. The possible mosquito breeding spots are regularly inspected by a company specialized in hygiene and health in charge.  Furthermore, the entire area of the Pier Mauá is weekly fumigated

Pier Mauá breaks record at the Carnival

On Sunday, 11 cruises will go through the passenger terminal. Among them, the Peace Boat in its 90th time around the globe.

Pier Mauá will register a record vessel movement on the same day of the Carnival. On Sunday (07/02), 11 cruises will pass through Pier Maua. Eight of them will stay in the city. On this day, 80 000 foreign visitors are expected, who will enjoy the party in the Marvelous City. The fate of most of them is the Sambadrome. More than 150 buses are already chartered to take the travelers to see the “greatest show on earth.”

Visitors who arrive at the passenger terminal of Pier Mauá will be greeted by the traditional Estacio de Sa samba school, which will lead to the local dancers, master of ceremonies and flag bearer and the top of the line drums part.

The Carnival week will be intense almost every day: two vessels will arrive on Saturday (02/06), 11 vessels on Sunday (02/07) and five by the end of next week. On this period approximately 130,000 people will transit through the terminal. Last Carnival around 70,000 people passed through. An increase of about 86% compared to 2015.

Among the vessels that will arrive at Pier Maua, the Peace Boat (Ocean Dream) is one of the highlights. On his 90th time around the world, the ship arrives to Rio de Janeiro at the Carnival Sunday (02/07) at 18h. Under the theme “Connections: shared experiences to shape the future”, groups of friends, families, activists and other opinion makers such as journalists and teachers, departed from Yokohama (Japan) in a 105-day trip. There are about 800 passengers from 10 countries who come to the city in order to have new experiences and learn a little of the Carioca culture.

In order to deal with this passenger flow increase, the Pier Maua tripled the number of employees working in the operation terminal, transit operation, luggage transportation security and other sectors.

The high season of Pier Mauá cruise began in November 2015 and continues until April. Last season, 490,000 people transited at the Cruise Terminal Pier Maua, boosting the city’s economy with US $ 147 million. This season, the forecasts is a movement of 565,000 people and an injection of $ 169 million (calculation performed considering the daily average spending of every tourist, which is US $ 300, according to the Brazilian Association of Tour Operators International receptive (Associação Brasileira dos Operadores de Turismo Receptivo Internacional)- BITO).

Pier Mauá presents new website and enhances visual communication at the cruise terminal

Dealership expands dialogue with the public on social networks

Pier Mauá welcomes 2016 with new features for cruise tourists and the public who want to know more about the activities of the dealership. The new website of the company – www.piermaua.rio – already in the air. With beautiful images and optimized navigation through any device, the channel presents the history of the Pier Maua, documentation required for travel, timing of arrival of ships, photos gallery events and many news about this high season.

In addition to the new website, the dealership also started to invest in activation and strength of the “Pier Maua” in social networks. Under the strategic management of simples.net – specializing in digital and integrated communication, the company strengthened its presence on Facebook by investing in diverse and informative content and created the company’s profile on Instagram, which already has over 8000 followers in a little more than a month of existence.

Pier Maua is also investing in improving communication with tourists from cruise ships. Boards with maps of location and nearby sights, folder with digital application tips for creating tours routes, see the best routes and ask for faster taxis are some of the features that visitors will find upon arriving in the port of Rio. With these tips, the cruise tourists, who mostly remain only one day in Rio de Janeiro, can plan visits to nearby locations of the port quickly and easily.

“We improved our internal communication because we realize how much this service is important not only for tourists but also for the city of Rio, because it generates a very positive change in the behavior. The well-informed tourist, who knows how to make better use of time and getting around, certainly tends to explore more sights than those without information in the palm, “said Denise Lima, marketing director at Pier Maua.

The goal is to encourage tourists to leave the terminal and explore what the city has to offer, especially at this time in which the access of passengers underwent changes due to the implementation works at the Porto Maravilha.
